Check 1.
Core Energy – Love and Connection.
The decision to walk 100km, as a team is first decided at a heart level. It requires love and soul energy for something in which you are passionate, driven or determined.
A good support crew is a paramount for the heart energy of such a challenge and we thank our support crew Con Pollicina and Katherine Jack for checking in with us at Checkpoints 2 – 6 (there are 8 in total) to reinforce and provide warmth, comfort and nutrition.
Check 2.
Alignment – Kindness and Determination
Under a full moon on the Friday morning we embraced the challenge ahead, rising at 3.30am and made our way to the mouth of the Hawkesbury River. There was an overriding confidence in all team members, based on a knowing that that training had been done, the effort had been put in and this more than anything else was conducive to a wonderful vibration at the starting line.
After a good holistic stretch out and a smooth registration process we made our way to the starting line to groove to our theme song, “ we’re up all night to get lucky” as it played over the sound system to lead us into the final countdown at 7am.
Check 3.
Rhythm – Consistency and Perseverance
We paced out a good rhythm throughout the walk, conscious of every team member’s natural flow and gait, particular body strengths and weaknesses and volume of training leading into the event, both as a team and individually. During the natural peaks and troughs that occurred during a team event of such a distance, we embraced a collective and consistent rhythm.
Check 4.
Resistance – Loyalty and Determination
Top 5 checks for optimal balanced body awareness for a distance based event like the 100km walk.
- Lower limb stretching – soleus, calves, Achilles.
- Global chain strength and conditioning – 2X 60 minutes 6 months prior to event.
- CORE conditioning
- Meditative focus and discipline
- Podiatrist check ins. foot health for happy feet!
Check 5.
Flexibility – Honesty and Resilience
We made it to the finish line as a team of four because of this most important check in, which fosters patience and empathy with all people.
It is difficult to strike a balance in life between flow and productive stillness and such an event coaches these concepts magically.
Team Energy Galore, we certainly struck the right notes and the results resonated with clarity.
- We ranked 85 amongst the complete teams of four that finished
- 75% (1445) of walkers finished the trail
- 94 %( 448) of teams finished with at least one walker
- 46% (207) complete teams of four made it to the finish line
- Average time to complete the 100 km was 30 hours and 25 mins.
Check 6.
Reward and Relaxation
A big thank you to our sponsors in Sydney who took us out on the Energy Galore ship the following day to cruise the best harbor in the world. We refueled the body with a swim in the 16-degree water! and enjoyed local fresh seafood, while being guided by a pod of dolphins moving with ease and grace, by our sides. A great guiding light, in stark contrast to the headlights that had been our only beacons in the dark for the last twelve hours.
This day was a perfect balance to restore our exhausted bodies and assist our speedy recovery!
If you would like to raise your physical vibration around the discussed check ins above we strongly encourage you to include the Australian OXFAM 100km challenge on your bucket list!
Energy Galore is ready to assist you in creating this balance.
Help us communicate this very important message by joining us for a special hour in body awareness in King George Square on Friday the 27th of September at 12pm.
